ABBOT
AND CHANZOE (Director) VISIT TO USA.
Arjia Rinpoche, the President of Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center in
United States extended their invitation to Khen Rinpoche Geshe Yonten Dhamchoe
and the director Ven. Tempa Dawa to attend His Holiness’s teaching at the
Center in Bloomington. Alongside this visit, they were also able to visit the
monastery’s sister organization Drepung Gomang Institute in Louisville as well
as our monks and friends in New York, Philadelphia, Miami, New Jersey, Virginia
and many other places. The visit of Abbot and director was very successful and
thank you all so much for the support and assistance that you extended and
special thank you to Mr. Curtis Jones for making this visit a possible.

NEW
GEGU (DISCIPLINE MASTER)

Geshe
Lobsang Gelek, new Gegu (discipline master)
The discipline master term here in our monastery is of one year, he is
responsible for the overall discipline of the monks of the monastery, he will be
assisted by two ‘chabre’ (assistant
disciplinarian). Discipline master is elected by the monks during the prayer
congregation whereas two assistant are appointed from the 16 khangtsens by
rotation. This year, Geshe Lobsang Gelek (Hamdhong Khangtsen) is elected as the
new Discipline master (Gegu).
PARCHEN
THUG CHORA
One of the annual monastic religious program was held here at the monastery in
June month, for several days the monks of Parchen classes participated in the
interclass mass debate congregation. The group of monks from each classes will
debate with other Parchen classes, the best moments of this debate is when group
gets more intensified into the debate, sometimes pulling and pushing his
classmates to ask his own toughest questions to the other party, with discipline
master and his assistant controlling all these jostle.

Keith Schmidt, Anne Dolma and Jason Holland visited this monastery for short
period with Geshe Jampa Sangay, Despite the rain, they visited the monasteries
and camps in this settlement, took blessing and offered prayers at Drepung Lachi
and also at Drepung Gomang Monastery’s new prayer hall. The monastery thanked
them for their visit and for the continuous support towards this monastic
institution.

Dawa was observed from 14th May-12th June (fourth month of Tibetan Calendar). It
is one of the most important sacred Buddhist days. The whole fourth Tibetan
Month is celebrated. On the full moon day of this month, Buddha has performed
three most important events of His life, birth, enlightenment and parinirvana.
During this month, people place special emphasis on dharma practice like
circumambulation of temples, stupas and monasteries, prostration, reciting
mantras, offering alms, saving animal lives, taking precepts, etcs. All these
merits are believed to be multiplied 100,000 times from our dharma
practices.
WORLD
HEALTH DAY CELEBRATED.
World health day was celebrated on April 7th, this year Drepung Gomang Community
dispensary organized the function at the Settlement Community hall where monks,
students from school attended the function. Ven. Tsewang Norbu, the supervisor
of Gomang Community dispensary gave talks on importance of health and also
brought importance of awareness towards our environment. Carry bags made from
cloth materials was distributed.


ELECTION
OF NEW ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF
Each
and every Tibetan Buddhist monastery has a group of directors and administrative
staff who looks after the welfare and finance of the monastery, here in our
monastery, the directors, Tibetan secretary and Accountant are elected by the
monks by vote at the prayer congregation. The term of their service here at the
office is of three years. The newly elected administrative staff who will take
charge from 1st Dec 2010 are Directors: Geshe Samten Gyatso (Chief executive
Director), Geshe Tsewang Thinley (Director), Geshe Tsonye Gyatso (Director),
Geshe Tashi Gyamtso (Director), Geshe Tsering Phuntsok (Director) and Geshe
Kalsang Ngodup (Director), Geshe Sonam Dawa (Accountant) and Ven. Tempa Rinzin (Tibetan Secretary)

The monastery's official tour to United States commenced from October 2010 after they were issued visa by US embassy, New Delhi. Mrs. Anne Walter, President of Drepung Gomang Institute (our sister organization) visited Delhi to help the monks at the Embassy. Thanks to her and everyone involved for all the wonderful work in this success.
