Demise of H.E. the 9th Khalkha Jetsun Dhampa Rinpoche.



With sadness and prayers, we share this news. H.E. The ninth Khalka Jetsun Dhampa Rinpoche passed away in Mongolia on 1st March, 2012.  An Alumnus of Drepung Gomang Monastery, late Khalka Jetsun Dhampa Rinpoche joined Drepung Gomang Monastery at the age of seven , studied Buddhist Philosophy for fourteen years. As soon as this sad news were received, all the shop, canteens, handicraft center and office as closed as mark of respect and prayer services was organized.

The monastery and its monks extend its sincere thank you and gratitude to Ven. Yeshe Lodoy Rinpoche for making a short visit to the monastery and offering generous donation towards the Monk’s Food foundation Fund. The monastery will continue to offer prayers for the long healthy life of Rinpoche and for the success of all his humanitarian projects.

32nd KALACHAKRA TEACHING AT BODH GAYA.

Bodh Gaya the holiest pilgrimage site for the Buddhist was the venue for the 32nd Kalachakra teaching from Jan 1-Jan 10. More than 200,000 devotees from 63 countries world wide including from Tibet and mainland China attended this sacred teachings from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. From our monastery itself, more than 1400 monks traveled by train to Bodh Gaya.

Friends of Drepung Gomang (a tax-sheltered 501 (c)(3) organization) now has Pay Pal donation buttons on the www.gomang.org website (both the front page and the tour page).  You may now donate to the monastery using this method.  If you make a donation to the monastery, FDG will forward it to Gomang (via a cashier's check)   and will issued you a receipt that you may use for tax purposes.  ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of your donation goes to the monastery and will help pay for the food and health care of the approximately 2,000 Tibetan monks at Drepung Gomang in South India.

OFFICIAL US TOUR GROUP OF MONASTERY 2012.

Drepung Gomang Official Tour group to United States has commenced with new group.  

A) To make a contribution to world healing and peace by sharing unique Tibetan Buddhist teachings, sacred religious performances, chanting, and Tibet's unique identity treasures of culture and authentic traditions.

B) Recognizing well, and very deeply, that there have been great tragedies in every part of the world, we want to share our sympathy and prayers together with you as human beings sharing this planet and sharing the future of this home of ours.

C) To generate a greater awareness of the endangered Tibetan civilization and human rights abuses by the Communist Chinese since 1959. As the situation in Tibet is becoming more desperate by the day, due to massive displacement of Tibetans by Chinese citizens sent there by the Communist government, and ever new rules and difficulties, especially at the monasteries, we need your help now.

D) To raise support for the refugee monks' community in south India for proper food, improvement in health & hygiene and for providing better education facilities for the monk students. We preserve our tradition and culture.

NO LOSAR CELEBRATION



Since March 2011, the fiery wave of self-immolation that has seen 16 Tibetans set themselves on fire, at least a dozen Tibetans are feared to have been killed in Chinese police firings in three separate incidents in Serthar, Ngaba and Drongo region of Tibet. In solidarity with the ongoing crisis in Tibet, Tibetans in exile will not celebrate Losar (Tibetan New Year) on February 22-24.

Drepung Gomang Monastery offers prayer for the souls of those martyrs who passed away and for those who are hospitalized.

ANNOUNCEMENT.

Mandatory requirement of PROTECTIVE AREA PERMIT
for Foreign visitors here.
All the Tibetan settlements established in India are classified as Protected Areas by the Government of India. Foreign nationals who wish to visit the Tibetan settlements in India for whatever reasons are required to take note of the following:

Protected Area Permit (PAP) is MANDATORY for visiting Tibetan Settlements in India.

As Drepung Gomang Monastery is situated in Doeguling Tibetan settlement, Mundgod, every visitor of Foreign nationals are required to apply for this permit well in advance. At least three months before the visit, sooner the better.

Being a religious site, teachings by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other important religious events are organized here from time to time, requirement in possession of this Protective Area permit is mandatory in order to allow attending or visiting this monastery or settlement.

So please do apply for this Permit well in advance.
