PROTECTED AREA PERMIT

General Information:

All the Tibetan settlements established in India are classified as Protected Areas by the Government of India. Foreign nationals who wish to visit the Tibetan settlements in India for whatever reasons are required to take note of the following:

Protected Area Permit (PAP) is MANDATORY for visiting Tibetan Settlements in India.

Procedure for applying Protected Area Permit (PAP)

Foreign nationals can apply for PAP through the Indian Missions in their respective countries simultaneously while applying entry visa for their visit to India. Foreign nationals can also apply for PAP directly to the Rehabilitation Section, Ministry of Home Affairs, Jaisalmer House, 26 Mansingh Road, New Delhi 110 011.

Documents required for applying Protected Area Permit:

*Copy of the applicant’s passport with Indian visa details (if visa is already in place in the passport)

*Three passport size photographs of the applicant

Alternatively, the foreign nationals can route their application for Protected Area Permit through this Bureau. In which case, a recommendation letter or a supporting letter from the Tibetan Settlement Officer (of the settlement where they plan to visit) or from the Administrator of the Monastery (they wish to visit) is MANDATORY.

Duly filled and signed applications along with clear copy of their passport (along with Indian Visa if obtained) and clear passport size photograph can either be sent through email @ rehab@tibetbureau.in or by post to:

How long does it take to process PAP application?

At least 3 (three) months from the date when the application is lodged at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

Kindly note:

In order to process your PAP within stipulated time frame, applicants are required to send in complete required documents and duly filled PAP proforma well in advance.
