NAME:                                     GESHE NAWANG TSONDU

  Geshe Nawang Tsondu, born in Orissa (Tibetan Settlement) in 1968. From young age, he has great wishes to become a monk. At the age of 11, he became monk at Drepung Gomang Monastery in South India. In 1980, he took his novice ordination vows (Gestul vows) from tutor to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Venerable H.E. Kyabje Ling Rinpoche, started his studies on the elementary monastic texts. He took his Gelong Vows (Bhikhu ordination vows: full ordination) from His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2002 at Drepung Gomang Monastery. He has completed all the monastic class (Five Major Treatise on Buddhist Philosophy), was conferred Geshe Kachu title in 2003 (equivalent to Ph.D in Western University). He also served as teacher at Kopan Monastery in Nepal from 2000 -2002. As the member of monastery’s religious tour group, Venerable Geshe Nawang Tsondu will be giving religious teachings in English besides participating in any interfaith discussion, Sand Manadala ceremony, prayer chants and Buddhist rituals. He is senior most member of the tour group and will lead the monastery’s tour 2011.

 

Geshe la has also observed numerous retreats i.e., Yamantaka Retreat for 15 days (twice), Tara Retreat for 10 days and Mahakala Retreat for 30 days.

NAME:                                      GESHE JINPA

Geshe Jinpa, born in Mundgod (Tibetan Settlement) in 1983. From young age, he has great wishes to become a monk. At the age of 8, he became monk at Drepung Gomang Monastery in South India. He took his novice ordination vows (Gestul vows) from Gen Thupten Khenrab, started his studies on the elementary monastic texts. He took his Gelong Vows (Bhikhu ordination vows: full ordination) from His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2003. After completion of all the monastic class (Five Major Treatise on Buddhist Philosophy), he appeared for six year Ph.D course (Gelug Gyuktoe) and was conferred Geshe Lharampa title in 2007 (equivalent to Ph.D in Western University) after passing the highest exams. He also took one year mandatory course in 2007 from Gyumed Tantic College. After completion of all these courses, he has been providing religious teachings to the young monks students here at the monastery. As the member of monastery’s religious tour group, Venerable Geshe Jinpa will be participating in any interfaith discussion and assisting tour leader, he is expert in Sand Manadala painting, butter sculptures, prayer chants and Buddhist rituals. He will be playing the religious drums and cymbals during the cultural pageant and religious occasion.

  NAME:                                      TSULTRIM SHERAB

  Tsultrim Sherab, born in 1983 at Mundgod. In 1991, he became a monk and received his novice ordination vows (Getsul vows) from Thawang Rinopoche. He received his Gelong Vows (Bhikhu ordination vows: full ordination) in 1992 from Venerable Gen Dakpa. Currently, he is studying in Zoe Class (Abhidharmakosh) of the monastic curriculum. Beside his religious studies, he also studied Butter sculpture, Sand Mandala Painting, Thanka painting (Tibetan scroll painting) taking out time from his studies. As the member of monastery’s religious tour group, he is well versed in all the chants, master in construction of Sand Mandala, Mask making and butter sculpture. In religious cultural pageant, he will be performing in Snow Lion Dance, Panda dance, Yak Dance and is expert in playing drums and gyaling ( little trumpet) during the cultural pageant and religious occasion. He has previously visited USA (2005), Canada (2005), Russia (2008 and 2009) and Poland (2010).

NAME:                                   GESHE   JAMPA TENZIN

 

Jampa Tenzin, born in 1983 at Mundgod. He joined Drepung Gomang Monastery in 1989 as he always wants to become a monk, he took novice ordination vows (Getsul vows) from Drepung Tripa Khensur Lobsang Tenpa, the current throne holder of Drepung Monastery in 1999. He received his Gelong Vows (Bhikhu ordination vows: full ordination) in 2006 from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Currently, he is studying in Zoe class (Abhidharmakosh) of the monastic curriculum. As the member of monastery’s religious tour group, he is trained master of chants (overtone), has expertise in Sand Mandala painting and butter sculpture. In the religious cultural pageant, he will be performing in Snow Lion dance, Yak Dance and is expert in playing drums, big long horn (dungchen), gyaling ( little trumpet) during the cultural pageant and religious occasion. He has visited Russia (2009) and Poland (2010).

NAME:                                      SHAYRAB HODSAL

Shayrab Hodsal, he was born at Mundgod Tibetan settlement in India in 1981. In year 1990, at the age of 9, he was admitted to Drepung Gomang Monastery and became a monk of this monastery where he took his novice ordination vows (Getsul Vows) from Venerable Sherab Rinpoche. He as of now is studying in Parchen (prajaparamita) class. In 2003, he received his Gelong Vows (Bhikhu ordination vows: full ordination) from none other than His Holiness the Dalai Lama. As the member of monastery’s religious tour group, he is very well versed in Sand Mandala constructions, prayer chants, rituals and making butter sculpture. In the religious cultural pageant, he will be performing in Snow Lion dance, Panda Dance and is expert in playing gyaling ( little trumpet) during the cultural pageant and religious occasion.

NAME:                                      TENZIN DEKYONG

Born in 1982 at Muney (Himalayan region of India), he was sent to school at young age at his native place where he studied Tibetan texts. At the age of 12, he became monk at Muney Monastery at his native place. He later joined Drepung Gomang Monastery and took his novice ordination vows (Getsul vows) in 1995 from then Drepung Tripa (Throne Holder) Khensur Tempa Tenzin. In 2009, he received his Gelong Vows (Bhikhu ordination vows: full ordination) from none other than His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Studying here at the monastery, he is now studying in Zoe class (Abhidharmakosh). As the member of monastery’s religious tour group, he is well versed in all the chants, construction of Sand Mandala painting and butter sculpture. In the religious Cultural pageant, he will be performing in Snow Lion Dance, Tashi Sholpa Dance, and Giant Panda dance and is expert in playing big long horn (dungchen) and plays drum during the cultural pageant.

NAME:                                      STANZIN RABGYAS

Stanzin Rabgyas, born in 1980 at Leh (Ladakh region). He became monk at age 8 and joined Drepung Gomang Monastery in South India. In 1989, he took his novice ordination vows (Getsul vows) from Venerable Lobsang. He received his Gelong Vows (Bhikhu ordination vows: full ordination) in 2009 from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He has completed class of Tsema (commentaries on logic), Uma (Madhyamika), Parchen (Prajnaparamita) and now undergoing studies on Zoe (Abhidharmakosh). Beside his regular studies, he also got himself trained in Sand Mandala and butter sculptures. As the member of the monastery’s religious Tour group. he will be performing in Giant Panda Dance and Snow Lion Dance during religious cultural pageant. He is also trained in playing the religious musical instruments like big horn (dungchen) and Gyaling (little trumpet)

NAME:                                     GESHE SONAM

Sonam, born on 1975 at Amdo Tibet. He became monk in 1987 at Tashi Kyel Monastery (Tibet), took his novice ordination vows (Getsul vows) from Agu Gedun Gyatso and studied the elementary monastic texts. In 1994, he enrolled in Drepung Gomang Monastery in South India to pursue further studies and to get blessing from H.H. the Dalai Lama. In 1997, he received his Gelong vows (Bhikhu ordination vows: full ordination) from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. After completion of monastic classes of Tsema (commentaries on logic), Uma (Madhyamika), Parchen (Prajnaparamita) and Zoe (Abhidharmakosh), he was honored with Geshe title in 2009. As the member of monastery’s religious Tour group, he is well versed in all the chants, Sand Mandala painting and butter sculpture, he will be performing in Giant Panda Dance and Yak Dance during religious cultural pageant. He is also expert in playing Tibetan long horn (dungchen) during the cultural pageant and religious occasion.
